Mauricio Goihman-Yahr, MD, PhD is Emeritus Professor of Dermatology and Immunology at the Vargas School of Medicine of the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas. He received his MD from the Central University of Venezuela and his PhD in medical microbiology and immunology from Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, CA He was Professor of Dermatology for many years, serving as Chairman at one time, and Founding Professor of Immunology at the Central University. He is currently in private practice in Caracas and maintains interests in clinical dermatology, immunology, and leprosy.
Among his many honors are the Andrés Bello Award (First Class) from the Government of Venezuela in 1985 and the José Maria Vargas Award (First Class) from the Central University. He holds membership in several societies, including Sigma Xi, American Academy of Dermatology, and Society for Investigative Derrmatology. Doctor Goihman-Yahr has served as president of the Venezuelan Society of Dermatology and the Venezuelan Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. He has been elected an Honorary Member of the American Dermatological Society and a Corresponding Member of National Academy of Medicine (Venezuela).
In addition to having authored over 180 scientific papers and 28 book chapters, he has served on the editorial boards of Dermatologí Venezolana, International Journal of Dermatology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and Medicina Cutánea IberoLatinaamericana. He has also been Editorial Consultant to The Lancet.
