Doctor Oliverio Welsh, Monterey, Mexico, received his Dr. Sc., Magna Cum Laude from the School of Medicine of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) in 1990. He took his dermatology training at the University of Michigan School of Medicine in Ann Arbor, completing the program in 1969. Since that time, he has practiced in Monterey, Mexico, where he was Titular Professor of Dermatology and since 2004, Emeritus Professor Active at UANL. He also has been the Founder and Chairman of the Mycology Laboratory, Vice-Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, and Founder of the Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory in Dermatology.
Among his accolades are the Nuevo Leon Medal of Civic Merit in the area of Scientific Research, Level 3 of the National Mexican System of Researchers, and Dr. José Eleuterio González Medal Award for Academic Development and Dermatologic Research by UANL in 2015. Doctor Welsh delivered the 2016 Eugene J. Van Scott Lecture of the International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology Congress in Panama City, Panama. He has published more the 115 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and 34 book chapters. Doctor Welsh has given more than 350 lectures world-wide and is a Titular Member of the Mexican Academy of Medicine. For Clinics in Dermatology, he has guest edited the series on fungal diseases of the skin.
