Nikolai Tsankov, MD, PhD

Professor Nikolai Tsankov, Sofia Bulgaria, received his MD degree from the Medical University of Sofia, following which he trained in dermatology and venereology in Sofia, earning a PhD in 1979. He took further training at l’Hôpital St Louis in Paris, France, and in 1995 received a Doctor of Medical Sciences degree. He served as Professor and Head of Dermatology and Venereology in Sofia and was Dean of the Medical Faculty from 1999-2008. He is currently Head of Dermatology and the Scientific Council at Tokuda Hospital in Sofia.

In addition to practicing dermatology, he has a keen interest in climatology and has participated in several scientific tours to Antarctica. Professor Tsankov is also a student of psoriasis and dermatologic therapeutics. He has written over 320 scientific papers and participated in the preparation of 58 textbooks and monographs. He has been on the program of nearly 70 international conferences and congresses.

In addition to being a Member of the Editorial Board of Clinics in Dermatology, he is Editor-in-Chief of Dermatologia i Venerologia and the CEEDVA (Central East-European Dermato-Venereological Association) Bulletin. He serves on the Editorial Board of several other journals in Serbia, Croatia, and Turkey, as well as the European Journal of Dermatology. He has been elected to Honorary Membership in 18 international dermatological societies. Professor Tsankov has been President of the Bulgarian Society of Dermatology and is a Corresponding Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Science.
