Professor Rodney Sinclair, MB BS, MD, FACD was appointed Professor of Medicine at the University of Melbourne in 2004 and Director of Dermatology at the Epworth Hospital as of 2012. He held the position of Director of the Department of Dermatology at St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne, Australia between 2005 to 2012. He is Past-President of the Skin and Cancer Foundation of Victoria (2003-2005) and a Founding Member and Past-President of the Australasian Society for Dermatology Research. In addition, he is a Founding Member and Past-President of the Australasian Hair and Wool Research Society.

His areas of research interest focus on hair biology and in particular, hair fiber structure, female pattern hair loss, alopecia areata, cicatricial alopecia, and the genetics of hair diseases. He conducts research in psoriasis, diseases of the nail, non-melanoma skin cancer, and melanoma. He has published over 400 peer review scientific papers in these areas as well as 13 books, 50 chapters in multi-author textbooks, and 39 case reports. His publications receive over 900 citations per year.

In 2010, he convened the World Congress for Hair Research in 2010 and in 2006, the World Congress of Cosmetic Dermatology of the International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology. He was Chairman of the Hair Symposium at the World Congress of Dermatology in Vancouver, BC. Professor Sinclair is Secretary General of the International Society of Dermatology Congress which will be held in Melbourne in 2021 and is President of the World Congress of Hair Research which will also be held in Melbourne in 2021.

He is Assistant Editor of the Australasian Journal of Dermatology. He is also a member of the editorial boards of: Experimental Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology, International Journal of Dermatology, Hair Transplant Forum, and Hair: Therapy and Transplantation and Trichology. He is a world leader in the diagnosis and treatment hair disease, nail disease, and psoriasis and the epidemiology and management of skin cancer. Professor Sinclair has co-authored Therapeutic guidelines- Dermatology, the Section of Dermatology in the Oxford Textbook of Medicine, and the Section on Hair Disease in both Rook’s and Bologna's textbooks Professor Sinclair is Director of Sinclair DIRECT (Dermatology Investigational Research, Education and Clinical Trials).
